Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form with origins in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India, and today is one of the most popular among all Indian classical dance forms with performers and teachers spread across the world.
Also one of the oldest of the dance forms, Bharatanatyam is known for its architectonic beauty and grammar, geometric and linear visuals, its extensive use of hand gestures (mudra) sculpturesque contours and the fine art of expression (abhinaya)
Bharatanatyam is usually accompanied by Carnatic Music - the South Indian style of classical music, and is known for its story telling technique that brings to the viewer, tales from the rich and varied heritage and culture of India, as well as India's spirituality.
Bharatanatyam today as a form, straddles solo and ensemble works; the traditional and the contemporary repertoire; with ease, as the style lends itself to conventional themes as well new creativity and aesthetics.
